Founded with the assistance of the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society, the Botanic Garden was established in Oadby in 1947 in the grounds of four Edwardian houses: Beaumont, Southmeade, The Knoll and Hastings which are now used as student residences. Their separate gardens have been merged and now form 16 acres of lovingly cultivated grounds and greenhouses with a wide variety of planting, natural habitats, form and colour.
This year’s trip on Wednesday 1st August will be to the John Taylor & Co bell foundry in Loughborough and Melbourne Hall and Gardens. Lunch is included.
